It’s been 17 years since Kurt Cobain took his life, but his memory still lives on. Makes you wonder on days like that, what would have been if he was still alive today. In 1991, Nirvana’s record “Nevermind” spearheaded the alternative rock music scene out of Seattle. Grunge rock was born and Cobain became the king of it. “Nevermind” sold 10 million copies worldwide and soon “In Utero”, the band’s follow up album was released.
Cobain wanted to call the album “I Hate Myself and I Want to Die”, claiming it was satirical but Geffen denied it. His first song on the album “Serve the Servants” was still released which gave a small dose of some of the frustration Cobain was feeling in the lyrics “Teenage angst has paid off well, now I’m bored and old..”
Bandmember Dave Grol told the BBC that Cobain’s death was a huge surprise. “It was probably the worst thing that has happened to me in my life,” he said. “I remember theday after that I woke up and I was heartbroken that he was gone.”
