Welcome to the 2011 season!
If you’ve ever been to Dodgers Stadium as the fan of another team, you understand the fact that you will be harassed, the line will be crossed, and someone who is very drunk will attempt to lure you into a fight.
A lifelong Cardinals fan, I never had anything against the franchise until I had the experience of taking my family to a Cardinals vs. Dodgers game that resulted in my daughter in tears, afraid for her safety because drunk Dodger fans began throwing things at Cardinals fans. It didn’t take long for security to deal with the folks throwing everything from pickles to aluminum beer bottles. However, the reprimand didn’t stop the late teen to early 40s crowd from continuing to harass everyone within an ear shot.
On Thursday evening, following the Dodgers win over rival San Francisco Giants, a couple Dodgers fans followed three Giants fans to their car, began yelling at them and then let their fists fly. All three of the visiting fans were struck, and one received a head injury that left him in critical condition overnight at a local hospital. The injury is being reported as non-life threatening.
Police are “actively” seeking the assailants, and are certain there are witnesses due to the fact that it happened right after the game, but so far they have received “nothing of great value” from personal accounts or surveillance.
I can’t imagine a parking lot full of Dodger fans ignoring such an incident–oh wait, yes I can…
Case in point, a lot of Dodgers fans will read this and feel immediate remorse–some of the finest human beings I have ever met are Dodgers fans… Unfortunately, there are the select who will take pride in such asininity.
Honestly, LAPD, and LA County Sheriff’s Department, do I need to spell it out for you? Put undercover officers in opposing team gear. You’ll draw funk from the legitimate flock within a 9 inning span.

I totally agree with you. Im a life long dodgers fan and cant stan these so-called dodgers fans that give us true fans a bad name. They probably dont even follow the team through the season. I love taking my family to the games and fortunately for us we have never witnessed any fighting. I sure hope those involved are caught and they should put undercover police in the stands. I'll say what I'm not supposed to. The Dodgers fanbase and culture has been completely Mexicanized since the early 90's and that's what causes these things to happen. I stopped going to Dodger games long ago although I live just 15 minutes up the freeway. What point is there when the place is filled with macho, violent and drunk Mexican skinheads with huge chips on their shoulders? Alas, it was a great franchise long ago.

I'm not unfairly targeting Dodger fans. I agree with you, and I WILL pull the race card. It should have nothing to do with it... It has nothing to do with race, it has to do with stupid people. All races have their stupids. Bottom line, I have lived all over this country. I have seen games in many different stadiums. The belligerence reigns supreme in L.A. HANDS DOWN. Sometimes it's quite impressive. Other times I've seen fans worthy of an arrest be ignored by LAPD. Never forget two jackasses who started picking on teenage Phillies fan, stole his hat and then started pushing him around until I insisted a cop do something about it. It's the mob mentality here that differentiates. Yes, fans razz opposing fans in other stadiums. More politely in the Midwest and South. Go to Busch Stadium in STL where they'll cheer for an opposing player who makes an outstanding play...as a Cards fan it's almost annoying, but we do LOVE baseball.. We're not talking isolated incident at Dodger Stadium. People go there LOOKING to "mix it up..." When I lived in NYC and was witness to my first Red Sox vs. Yankees game, they were merciless toward Sox fans, but nobody was attacked on the way to the 4 train. The only place that I think is comparable to the level of what at occurs at Dodger Stadium is Wrigley Field. So, D, forget the "Mexicanization" theory. I love my Mexican brothers. But then, Chicago never started riots because their basketball team WON the NBA Championship. I love L.A., I can just do without putting people in the hospital. Get into MMA... Finally... how can you watch TOO MUCH Boyz in the Hood? That thing is a weekly watcher. When I close my eyes I see Ice Cube with a jerry curl...it brings me peace.

Unfortunately, you will always have ghetto a$$, drunk people at ball games. I've been harassed way too many time at Giants stadium, to the point of almost fighting (and it always comes from white guys so the race issue is moot). Yes, it’s horrible what happened to this guy, but nothing is being said about what went on in the stadium before the attack. Were the Giants’ fans taunting those Dodger fans? Did they yell expletives about the Dodgers or throw things like beer and peanuts at them? I have a hard time believing it was "unprovoked". I’m certainly not condoning it, but why would these guys just follow them out to the parking lot for the heck of it? I’m a diehard Dodger fan who grew up in the Bay Area. I couldn’t attend a game at Candlestick without having beer and peanuts thrown at me, swearing, spitting, etc. I decided I wasn’t going to attend anymore games there – it just wasn’t any fun. I’m just tired of Dodger stadium security and the fans being blamed for this – it happens everywhere, unfortunately.

I am a cardinals fan and went to a Cards dodgers game last season, we lost and some mexicans still wanted to fight. The majority of fans at that ballpark are mexicans. And not all mexicans are shit disturbers, but the majority at that game are. They are the most class less fans in the world. I am a Reds fan and have been going to Padres and Dodgers games for the past two years. The first Dodgers vs Reds game I went to I wore all of my Reds gear and I was harassed constantly and NO I wasn't drunk, I wasn't provoking. All I was doing was clapping and cheering when my Reds did something good. I never felt physically threatened, but I was with a big group of friends that were wearing Dodgers colors so that probably helped. And guess what, that was in 2009 during the game that Manny Ramirez smashed a grand slam against the Reds as a DH. And the Dodgers fans were still harassing me after that. Keep in mind, I am a petite blonde haired girl who looks no older than 18 (though I am much older) so I'm not a threatening looking person who would be "asking for it". I don't wear Reds gear to that stadium anymore (well, visible Reds gear). I have watched Reds games at Petco, Wrigley, Miller Park and Safeco and the home team fans were nothing but nice. So I do think there is something wrong with the atmosphere at Dodger Stadium. I go there for non-Reds games too and the fans in the visiting teams jerseys always look uncomfortable. It happens everywhere but I think harassment is par for the course at Dodger Stadium. I just wish the Angels were NL instead of AL so I could have a local stadium that was safer and where I could watch my Reds play while wearing my Reds gear. I think these Giants fans probably responded to the harassment instead of just ignoring it and that is what caused the problems.

Fact is Fact! I lived across the street from the Stadium Going to Games as a kid in the 60's and 70's we didn't see this kind of crap back then. The fact is the majority of the people at the game were white. They dressed nice in the 60's in LA at Dodger games, sport coats, Ties, dress shoes. LA had class still. But not now and not for 30 years. Bunch of dirt bags and border line criminals. Like most of LA now. They ruined this city my home city. The last game I went to I saw to Mexican so called Dodger fans get in a fight over the Oakland Raiders and Denver Broncos. Idiots! My kid never wants to go to a game now. I have been a Dodgers fan for 30 years. I am no longer supporting the franchise because of crap like this. Not the fault of the owners/players but the franchise is not the same. Last spring was the last time at dodgers stadium and I felt unsafe because of all the belligerent mexicans. Fact is most are not straight from Mexico city, most are from multiple generations in Cali. It's just the nature of the culture and composition of the city. This is one reason why the dodgers and the crappy old ravine will never be as great as the red sox, yanks, or giants. I've been to lots of stadiums. Chavez ravine is the worst.

Just a little update: As of April 5th, the gentleman who was struck in the back of the head, is showing signs of neurological damage, and may never function again as he once did. The reward has climbed to $100,000 for positive identification or information leading to the identification of the suspects. Whine all you like Dodger fans, but this kind of thing DOESN'T happen everywhere with the frequency that it happens at Dodger Stadium.
