If you’ve ever been to Dodgers Stadium as the fan of another team, you understand the fact that you will be harassed, the line will be crossed, and someone who is very drunk will attempt to lure you into a fight.
A lifelong Cardinals fan, I never had anything against the franchise until I had the experience of taking my family to a Cardinals vs. Dodgers game that resulted in my daughter in tears, afraid for her safety because drunk Dodger fans began throwing things at Cardinals fans. It didn’t take long for security to deal with the folks throwing everything from pickles to aluminum beer bottles. However, the reprimand didn’t stop the late teen to early 40s crowd from continuing to harass everyone within an ear shot.
On Thursday evening, following the Dodgers win over rival San Francisco Giants, a couple Dodgers fans followed three Giants fans to their car, began yelling at them and then let their fists fly. All three of the visiting fans were struck, and one received a head injury that left him in critical condition overnight at a local hospital. The injury is being reported as non-life threatening.
Police are “actively” seeking the assailants, and are certain there are witnesses due to the fact that it happened right after the game, but so far they have received “nothing of great value” from personal accounts or surveillance.
I can’t imagine a parking lot full of Dodger fans ignoring such an incident–oh wait, yes I can…
Case in point, a lot of Dodgers fans will read this and feel immediate remorse–some of the finest human beings I have ever met are Dodgers fans… Unfortunately, there are the select who will take pride in such asininity.
Honestly, LAPD, and LA County Sheriff’s Department, do I need to spell it out for you? Put undercover officers in opposing team gear. You’ll draw funk from the legitimate flock within a 9 inning span.
