Jesus Christ, Mobsters Marry Frightening Women — VH1’s Mob Wives

By Mark Lorenz on March 28th, 2011

Some mafia-centric movies and television shows painted the wives of criminals as angelic snowflakes, sent down to lavish the world with pasta and good feelings. The rocks of their families. But a new show on VH1 is set to change all of that.

That show is Mob Wives. Surprisingly enough, ‘Mob Wives’ seems to feature no Italian cherubs, only portly cast-offs from ‘The Craft’ and ‘Jersey Shore’ mixed with a splash of ‘Real Housewives’. There will be nicotine-scarred vocals alongside dark hair and hoarse laughs. There will be names that end in vowels, and words like soldiers and enforcers brandished like so many hot irons that print your name into your enemies’ backsides. Featured on the show? Daughter of Sammy ‘The Bull’ Gravano, Karen Gravano, who was previously implicated in a drug running ring and served probation; Renee Graziano, daughter of the consigliere in the Bonanno crime family (and sister of the show’s executive producer, who was also convicted of smuggling marijuana); Drita D’Avanzo, wife of Lee D’Avanzo, a Bonanno enforcer.

And then there’s the odd woman out, whose family consisted of mobsters that were put away in prison….and then promptly married a man running a boiler room operation.

There will be snatching. VH1 should just change their slogan to ‘Yes, we have your weave.’
