Fourteen years ago today, an icon was gunned down.
RIP, Notorious BIG. Today is Biggie day, where 14 years ago to the day, Biggie was gunned down my assassins that as of yet to be identified. Bittersweet for the fans, even more bittersweet to his family. We lost one of the world’s greatest rappers and we still don’t know who was responsible for doing the deed. Instead we’re saddled now with remnants of Biggie’s posse. Stuck with Diddy Combs still pretending like he can rap, Lil’ Kim attacking Nicki Minaj, and the rest of Junior Mafia taking your orders at whatever drive-through window is closest to you. They probably thought that their lives were going to change forever, and then in one night, all their dreams were taken away in a flash.
Linked above is a Biggie music video, emblematic of the 90’s excess we all love and wish we had back. Plus, you can dance to it, and the lyrics are nowhere as stupid as some of Pitbull’s screeds today — he actually uses polysyllabic words and rhyme schemes. And doesn’t just talk about hotels.
As a wise man once said, if Biggie were still alive, 90% of rappers would be out of work. Rest in peace.
