Westboro Baptist Church is at it Again (Watch)

By James Sheldon on March 2nd, 2011

Yep. You can’t keep ‘em down. The lovely folks from the Topeka, Kansas, Westboro Baptist Church have vowed to quadruple their efforts of protesting at military funerals. This after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the church and their displays. Thanks again, antiquated, misinterpreted First Amendment.

Sure. The Westboro Baptist Church has the right to be as hateful as they want to be according to U.S. law–I’m as sure as you are that that is what our forefathers were going for in scribing the First Amendment.

There are so many ironies within this bag, it’s hard to know where to begin. Do you begin with the hypocrisy of the Westboro Baptist Church, or the hypocrisy of the United States federal government? Let’s go with the Westboroians.

They protest these funerals of military deaths due to the fact that these deaths occur, according to their doctrine, because we’re so tolerant of homosexuality in the United States. I know that could be debated strongly from both sides, but in essence, considering the diverse nature of the settled in this country, it is quite true. Looking at the grand scheme of world cultures, we are a very tolerant nation, period. The Westboro Baptist Church should know this, because mouthing off anywhere else in the world as they do, they would have ceased to exist long ago.

Staying on topic, a question to the Westboroians: Now that you’ve explained the nature and cause of the deaths in this war, why were there so many deaths in WWII? WWI? Both the Union and Confederate forces saw mass casualties and fatalities in the American Civil War–what of that? What about the American Revolution and fight for American Independence? A lot of deaths in that one.

I’ve got a pocketful of questions. All of which will go unanswered. Though I am curious: Do you think you could draft a lawsuit based on the fact (Biblically speaking) that the Westboro Baptist Church, which is organized as a business, is advertising falsely based on their claims via various literature that their teachings are in accordance with a specific textual document, when in fact it isn’t? I know there have to be laws that would outlaw their display of certain signs, which are quite pornographic in nature. Hmmm… a pocketful of questions.

Actually, the WBC is made up of Calvinists who believe we are all preordained to go either to heaven or hell. What they are trying to do is provoke such an emotional response from people it will betray their inner spiritual condition. Sick. I know.
