Soccer Player Kicks Mascot Owl During Match (Watch)

Luis Moreno: He’s the Douche of the Day.

Last weekend, they held a little futbol match in Colombia.

One of the teams involved, and I don’t know which team, because I don’t follow Colombian soccer–a team from Colombia–the team’s mascot is an owl. They have a beautiful, domesticated owl that hangs out, flies around and represents the team. The psycho-soccer fans in every world nation aside from the U.S. and Canada, love their teams. This team loves their owl. Freakin’ LOVE their owl.

The owl took a little unexpected flight during the game, and landed on the pitch during play. As you’ll see in the video, the poor owl gets clocked by the ball, completely stunning the bird. As it lie there, injured, the referee stopped play. An opposing player, the aforementioned Douche of the Day, clearly a little frustrated with the situation, decided he’d remove the owl by kicking it toward the touchline.

Sure, owls don’t belong on the soccer field, and Moreno might not qualify as the Douche of the Day had he stated, “I hate owls! I’m afraid of them! I just lost it! I’m sorry!” But instead, he “apologized” by stating that he kicked the bird to see if it could still fly. Seriously. The crowd began chanting “murderer,” and I’m sure the Panamanian Moreno immediately feared for his life. We know how those South American soccer fans roll.

As you’d suspect, the league is not happy about Moreno’s poor decision, and he faces disciplinary action. Perhaps getting kicked in the face to see if he can fly? The owl died this morning.
