The David E. Kelly TV version of Wonder Woman finally has its leading lady. Adrianne Palicki, the artistic-jock originally from Ohio, will play the femigoddess/superhero. A fan of Adrianne, her work on Friday Night Lights, as well as the short-lived, didn’t-get-a-fair-shake drama, Lonestar, this casting decision made perfect sense. According to NBC casting, Palicki was the only actress invited to test for the role. In terms of physicality, the 5′11″ beauty will more than likely tower over friend and foe.
Palicki starred as Tyra Collette, the troubled teen with untapped potential, on Friday Night Lights, and hopped straight from her storyline in the fan favorite to Lonestar. She’s also starring in the reboot of Red Dawn opposite Chris Hemsworth, which is set to be released later this year. Wonder Woman and Thor fighting a communistic invasion? Yeah, I’ll check that one out, too.
The Wonder Woman revisitation will have everything that Wonder Woman fans expect from the DC Comics storyline. Palicki will get to strut as the title character, but also enjoy character forays into Wonder Woman’s two alter-egos: Successful businesswoman Diana Themyscira and Ms. Themyscira’s timid assistant, Diana Prince.
This is the first time Wonder Woman has hit the screen in non-animated fashion since Lynda Carter donned the red, white, blue…and gold in the 70s. I’m quite interested to enjoy the contemporary incarnation. According to David E. Kelly, there is still plenty of work to do on the script, but the production is moving forward nicely. The show will premier on NBC.
