Have you heard This American Life? This American Life is a weekly public radio show produced by Chicago Public Radio and hosted by Ira Glass. It was a Showtime show a couple of years ago, but was eventually taken off the air due to scheduling conflicts.
This week This American Life revealed the recipe to one of the most “American” brands out there – Coca-Cola.
What are the ingredients in the Hush Hush Coke Recipe?
They released two versions of the Coca-Cola Recipe.
In the first version Coke is made up of water, sugar, caramel, vanilla and lime juice. In the second version called “7x Flavor,” alcohol, orange oil, lemon oil, nutmeg oil, coriander oil, neroli oil and cinnamon oil are combined.
These versions were taken from a photograph in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article from 1979 and the other form a 19992 book about the cola industry. The original recipe was said to be found in the notebook of the 19th century chemist who created the soft drink.
I’m not sure exactly what to do with this new found information. Start my own cola farm in my basement? Drink a coke in happy merriment now that I know what it consists of?
Sigh.. I’ll probably just shrug my shoulders and get on with my day.
