Norm MacDonald Coming Back To Comedy Central

By Mark Lorenz on February 9th, 2011

Norm MacDonald is one of the funniest men in comedy – but he’s always been overlooked in favor of less innovative and more photogenic comics that do hackneyed ethnic jokes. Hopefully all that’s about to change.

I am a giant Norm MacDonald fan. Seriously. Look up any of the man’s talkshow appearances, you’ll find a man steeped in performance art who can do things like make fun of Carrot Top and the entire structure of a Comedy Central roast. You’ll find a man that Conan treasures as one of his most hilarious guests, and that Dennis Miller would use during his stint on HBO. And now you’ll be able to find him on Comedy Central, as they’re giving him his own sports show. If you ever caught Norm MacDonald doing Weekend Update, you’ll understand why this is an exciting thing. There hasn’t been a comedy show that deals with sports since NBC ran that godawful program late-night with actors cobbled together from the Second City mainstage in Chicago.

The show is being produced by MacDonald, and will be titled Sports Show With Norm MacDonald. And he will bring several buckets of snark to coat the set with a fine varnish. My favorite Norm MacDonald story was told to me by the creator of Becker. Legend has it when he was writing for Roseanne, Norm MacDonald would always take his lunches in his office. At the end of the year, when an assistant went to clean out his office, he had to clear out about 30 lunches.

Hilarious. And gross.
