There’s going to be another Superman movie, hopefully wiping the public’s memory of the trainwreck that was Brian Singer’s version with Brandon Routh. But the casting already looks a little suspect.
Zack Snyder will be directing the reboot with Christopher Nolan producing…so maybe it’ll be a darker take on Superman? Whatever they’re trying to do, be it an overcast take on one of the most American of superheroes — or a peppy adaptation, they have a new actor in place: Henry Cavill. Little known facts about Henry Cavill include…
1. He was once up for the roles of Batman and James Bond, but was eked out by other actors in both instances.
2. He enjoys eating live penguins. Just kidding.
Based off of him missing two of the biggest franchises in history — the man is incredibly unlucky. He’ll probably do a great job with the character, the movie’ll be stellar, but just because he’s Henry Cavill, it’ll open terribly. This isn’t an indictment on him as an actor, in fact, watch The Tudors. He’s a great actor. Just the possessor of what’s been dubbed the worst luck in Hollywood Snyder released a statement today.
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.
Cavill doesn’t look much like Superman – then again, every Superman since Christopher Reeves has just looked like Christopher Reeves. What do you think? Will he do a great job? Will the writer of the screenplay, David S. Goyer bring the same magic he brought to Batman Begins?
