You Can Stop Washing Your Jeans, With Science

By Mark Lorenz on January 24th, 2011

Oh, thank the Lord. I thought my denim was breeding an army of infectious diseases because I’ve worn them every day for the last three weeks without giving them so much as a courtesy freezing. According to my mother, I’m an embarrassment. Science, however, says I’m a trendsetter.

You can do a lot with jeans. Like turn them into suits, circa 1990’s boy-band relevant fashion trends — or if you’re brave you could wear them for 15 straight months without washing them. 15 straight months. Without washing them. From one birthday to the next, tacking on three months additionally. A lot can change in 15 months. Start a new career, move, and then birth a baby and a half – all without the bother of changing your jeans. Josh Le took a bullet for the rest of us slovenly men and wore his jeans for 330 days without washing them, starting in September of 2009. The result? The amount of bacteria in the jeans was negligible between the first wearing and the first washing. So you can wear your jeans for 15 months.

This doesn’t answer a lot of questions, though. Such as – was he wearing underwear? How did he maintain jeans for 15 months without spilling anything on them?

Josh Le is some kind of wizard. Here he is, timelapsing.
