A suicide bomber detonated a bomb that killed 35 people at the Domodedovo airport in Moscow and left another 152 injured today.
President Dmitry Medvedev is referring to the incident as a terrorist attack and has ordered additional security at Moscow’s other airports to ensure safety measures are met.
Police and officials are on a high alert as no one is sure whether or not there are more bombs planted in other areas.
The incident occurred at 4:30pm near the entrance of the airport’s international arrivals section. A video has been released by State TV smoke-filled areas with luggage on the ground and what appeared to be bodies next to it.
Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee is reporting 35 dead and 152 injured but numbers could rise as the debris is being cleaned away.
It’s also being reported that “the bombing was an act of a suicide bomber who stuffed a homemade bomb with small metal objects to make it more deadly, then activated it in a crowded area where many people were either preparing for flights or waiting for arriving passengers.”
