Google Offers to Compete with Groupon

I bet Groupon wishes they could turn back time..

Mashable announced today that Google is planning on launching Groupon Google Offers – a direct competition to Groupon and Living Social. From the sounds of it it’s going to look like Groupon, feel like groupon, email like Groupon..

Except three BILLION times bigger… like Google.

Anyone else feeling sorry for the underdog?

A couple of months ago Google tried to buy Groupon for $6 billion in order to expand their local advertising business. They famously declined in an attempt to prepare for a $15 million IPO.

This statement was released to Mashable today:

“Google is communicating with small businesses to enlist their support and participation in a test of a pre-paid offers/vouchers program. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort at Google to make new products, such as the recent Offer Ads beta, that connect businesses with customers in new ways. We do not have more details to share at this time, but will keep you posted.”

So this confirms that Google offers is real just in beta.

Would you use Google offers? Would you STOP using Groupon?
