It was just one week ago that former homeless man with a ‘golden radio voice’ Ted Williams was plucked from the streets for a second chance at fame.
After watching Ted’s life turn around in an instant – finding work and being reunited with his mother – we’re also seeing that old habits die hard. Ted has admitted to drug and alcohol addictions in the past, and today Gossip Cop confirms that the voice-over star has checked into rehab.
The decision was reportedly made after Ted got into a fight with his 29-year old daughter Janey Monday night, after taping a family reunion segment for the Dr. Phil show. Williams was questioned by police following the incident and released an hour later. No one was charged.
Phil reportedly convinced the former homeless man to seek treatment after he revealed during the program that he is currently using alcohol.
“Away from the camera, away from the media, Dr. Phil convinced Williams to go to rehab,” a rep for the show tells Gossip Cop.
“If Ted is ever going to get better, he’s got to be honest with himself and admit he’s addicted to drugs and alcohol,” Phil said. “I’ve told him it’s not going to be easy and it’s going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction [via Pop Eater].”
