Let’s get one thing clear from the start: I don’t play World of Warcraft. It’s just not for me. That said, many of my friends do. As a result of this, the quality of my life is directly influenced by WoW. When something’s wrong with WoW, I feel the residual effects.
So it comes as bad news that World of Warcraft players around the world are getting an error message that says “launcher cannot obtain patching information” when they try to log in today. This is making it impossible for addicts gamers to get their fix of the game.
This is especially troubling when you consider that much of the northeastern part of the country is about to get snowed in. Snowed in + WoW = winder wonderland. Snowed in +”launcher cannot obtain patching information” is not a good scene.
WoW players are understandably scrambling to try to find a fix. So far, no dice.
Why is this happening? It’s probably just scheduled maintenance. It will probably be over soon. You try telling that to gamers who want to play right now, though. Good luck.
UPDATE: Some people are saying that this fix works. Give it a try. What do you have to lose?
- First, remove any custom proxy settings.
- Then go to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options> Connections> LAN settings and make sure that you select Automatically Detect settings.
- Then make sure that you have Use Automatic Configuration Script and Use a Proxy Server not checked.
- If this doesn’t work, try renewing your IP address and flushing your DNS cache. Or try going outside and talking to a real life person.

Dude... Your information is right and all but is all the prodding on the players necessary? Let people do what they want. If your gonna make a blog trying to help a certain group don't A) Make retarded over used jokes like a self centered socialist who thinks he's the coolest guy on the planet. and B)categorize every one who plays the game with the stereotypical standards. You do not know any of us. You do not know how much we play the game. You know nothing about manners or kindness of any kind. So good job on the blog your information is correct. By the way, stop making the game seem like a drug. It makes you come off as an arrogant dick who thinks he's better then WoW players cause he gets more social time. We live how we want to live so STFU and GTFO you newfag.

I reset my modem and wireless router and it worked. didn't touch any settings. probably the easiest thing to try first unless your modem is deep in the dungeon you call basement.
