Normally we don’t write about Britney Spears unless she’s shaving her head and battering cars with a blunt umbrella. You know – how Britney would be if she didn’t have handlers holding back her good umbrella arm every time she cocks it back.
But she’s recently gotten back into making music, and released a single that seems BASED OFF A GROUCHO MARX LINE (‘If I said that you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?’, the Britney lyric is ‘If I said I want your body now / Would you hold it against me?’) that every music publication website is pissing themselves over. The single has already gotten hundreds of thousands of hits on YouTube, prompting Manolith to ask, really?
Really? This is what gets people batty? It’s a joint effort from Dr. Luke and Max Martin to make a pop song, and the lyrics are sub 13-year-old in a notebook territory. It temporarily breaks into dubstep towards the end which is the most interesting thing Britney Spears has ever done. You can argue about how influential Blackout was to pop until you’re blue in the face – it’s still pop music. Most of it still lacks any iota of personality to make it saleable to the public – but is reviewed. Because that’s how the beast works.
