Shelley Malil, an actor who most notably starred in ‘The 40 Year Old Virgin’ was sentenced to life in prison Thursday. He stabbed his ex-girlfriend, Kendra Beebe, 20 times after he came to her home unannounced and found her drinking wine with another man.
Radar Online reports that a jury convicted the actor of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon three months ago, after deliberating for less than four hours about their decision.
Under his sentence, Shelley may be eligible for parole in twelve years, though he could be a free man as early as nine years from now, based on time served and a possible early release for good behavior.
In his testimony, Shelley revealed that he visited Kendra in August 2008 to apologize for stealing personal items from her home, and to inform her that he had emailed explicit photos of them to her coworkers. However, when he discovered she was entertaining another man, he stabbed her repeatedly with a kitchen knife.
The actor’s attorney insisted that despite doing too far by stabbing her, he never intended to murder Kendra. Shelley pleaded not guilty to the charges.
