Cartoons Invade Facebook

By Mark Lorenz on December 3rd, 2010

One unexpected benefit to Facebook’s existence is that people sometimes band together to a drawn attention to causes. Causes that before were underrepresented.

Causes that sometimes make people change their profile picture to cartoon pictures in an effort to curb child abuse. Or at least, to draw attention to the fact that there are still children being abused nationwide. Which is a good thought. Anytime somebody tries to call attention to an issue that doesn’t get enough recognition, I applaud.

But surely there were some children out there whose worst memories are episodes of The Smurfs. Child abuse doesn’t stop for cartoons. Repeated viewing of cartoons could be considered child abuse, couldn’t it? I mean, if your parents are neglecting you and forcing you to watch that show where animals and villains have to race each other, that’s pretty much hell on earth. That one with Muttley. I can’t even remember the name.

So if you want to contribute to the awareness of people, change your Facebook profile pic to a cartoon from the 80’s or the 90’s. Preferably Ghostbusters. Or Scooby Doo. That’s from the 80’s, isn’t it?

I feel like incarnations have stretched since the 80’s. Do it now. For the children.
