Dane Cook has somehow risen to the top of the comedy pyramid – despite material that could easily be gleaned from a high schooler’s notebook, and a delivery which rivals all of Las Vegas for substance over flash.
But that’s somewhat expected, right? There’s so much chaff in the comedy world, it’s inevitable that one or two people rise to the top who are miraculously unfunny. But what’s more unexpected than Dane Cook selling out Madison Square Garden, and being one of the most popular comedians on the planet? Him debuting on Broadway. That’s right, Cook is going to tackle to subject of serious acting, alongside Robin Williams in a new play, entitled Fat Pig. There are some sentences that you’d never expect writing as a blogger – namely that Dane Cook is going to be doing plays on Broadway.
It’s not like Broadway has been invaded by recognizable names devoid of talent, but blessed with media presence – anyone remember Ashlee Simpson? But this will be the Dane’s first foray into acting outside of romantic comedies involving Jason Biggs.
Which means, god willing, Dane Cook is going to become a serious actor. He’s going to be competing with Ian McKellan for roles down the line.
