You’d heard about it for several weeks. Ever since ABC started running ads for the CMAs. Gwyneth Paltrow and her country music debut.
I seriously thought it was going to be some sort of her collaborating with someone, as opposed to a someone (Vince Gill) collaborating with her. I suppose being married to the front man of Coldplay for long enough, and you decide country is the way to go…? That’s not a knock on Coldplay or Chris Martin, I’m a fan. Just trying to understand. Or perhaps it was her being sung about in the Lemonheads, Gwyneth’s Head in a Box.
I have no valid opinion of her performance. She looked beautiful, and seemed a little nervous, but beyond that, I’ll have to leave it to country music fans, of which I am not. Classic country, sure, but contemporary…it’s rare–there are better lyricists in most local, public high schools. Just sayin’. Had I not grown up in Branson, Missouri, I’d probably feel differently about the genre.
Personally, I have no issue watching Gwyneth in any role. Whether it’s a re-viewing of her career hammer drop in Shakespeare in Love, or one of my favorite 2008 indies, Two Lovers–as an artist, she fully commits to everything she does and I’ve never seen her miss.
If you didn’t catch it, and you’re a fan of Gwyneth, or perhaps, Iron Man, have a peek at Pepper Potts doing her new thing.
