BMW announced a recall Tuesday for potential fuel pump failures in some of its vehicles.
USA Today reports that BMW will recall about 130,000 of its 2007-2010 cars with the twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines for potential failure of their high-pressure fuel pump, and about 20,800 of its 2008 X5 crossovers with the normally-aspired inline six to replace the low-pressure fuel pump.
The recall was made public the same day that ABC News accused the automaker of dragging its feet on the fuel-pump recalls despite years of owner complaints.
Models affected by a potential high-pressure fuel pump issue are:
- 2007-2010 335i series
- 2008-2010 135i, 535i and X6 xDrive35i Sports Activity Coupes
- 2009-2010 Z4 Roadster sDrive35i
Over 20,000 2008 X5 Sports Activity Vehicles using low-pressure fuel pumps have also been affected.
BMW has said that no injuries have been reported with either pump problem.
