In an interview that was posted this morning, Christopher Nolan announced the name of the next movie in his wildly successful Batman reboot franchise. The third film in the series will apparently be called The Dark Knight Rises.
There was speculation that the film would be called Gotham or perhaps Shadow of the Bat (a title borrowed from a story arc in the Batman comics). It turns out that the actual title is much less innovative.
Nolan also revealed that The Riddler will not be the villain in the film. There had been much speculation that The Riddler was next in line to be taken down by Bruce Wayne. Many fans argued that Johnny Depp or Joseph Gordon Levitt could play a great Riddler. Others countered that the character is just too similar to The Joker.
There has been much speculation about who the villain might be. The names Killer Croc and Bane are popular among the fanboys, but we really have no idea what Nolan has planned. He has proven that he’s not afraid to buck conventional wisdom and do things his own way.
Nolan also revealed that the film will not be shot in 3D but that it will be shot with an emphasis on IMAX.
