You might not know, but the Kings of Leon have released yet another album. Only it’s not really an album – more like a collection of rejected atmospheric b-sides. You might not also know, they like trashing other bands.
Which is fine. I remember the Kings when they were scrappy musicians who wanted to fight with everybody and steal their girlfriends simultaneously – now they’re a band that can’t handle being crapped on by pigeons, who have their security keep them separate from all the other bands and get chauffeured around individually in black Range Rovers. And who apparently trash Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire is the indie collective that has somehow gotten big enough to play Madison Square Garden and has released one Torontolicious collection of songs after the other. They’re good. Really good. They don’t really need to justify themselves in the press by bagging on other bands. Which can’t be said about KOL’s drummer Nathan Followill.
“Now it’s cool to have 14 people in your band doing everything but contributing musically, running around with a helmet on your head, hitting it with a drumstick. You gotta look at what you’re in this for: the love of music? The fame? You can have all that if you’re smart and play your cards right and don’t become a dick.”
Hipster Runoff did some research and found that sho’ nuff, there’s a member of Arcade Fire who does just that. So maybe they are pretentious…
…but at least half of their songs aren’t about vaginas. Seriously. Be a dumber band, KOL. If it’s possible.
