Abstinence Education Doesn’t Work…So Says The CDC

By Mark Lorenz on October 21st, 2010

Your babies are having babies. If you’ve ever wondered where society is failing, take a gander at MTV. You’ll see shows like Jersey Shore, and the most infuriating show ever put to air, 16 and Pregnant.

It highlights the plights of the girls who are in fact 16 – and unbelievably pregnant. They also have to deal with the consequences of said pregnancies which will haunt them for life in tiny, joyful bundles. They won’t get to goof around like kids should and will be faced with the daunting task of listening to the sounds of screaming at all hours of the day. Some say that this problem can be resolved with abstinence-only education.

Well guess what? Those people are probably pregnant, and don’t know it. Because the states that stress abstinence education the most are the states where people are running around and getting pregnant. According to the CDC, in Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas – the pregnancy rate is higher than 60 per 10,000 teens. That’s a whole lot of babies making babies making more babies.

In addition to being ineffective, abstinence education just sounds like a punishment given to you by a frustrated parent. “GO TO YOUR ROOM! NO SEX TILL MARRIAGE!”
