Not only is Jimmy McMillan the party leader of “The Rent is Too Damn High” party in New York, but he is also the gubernatorial candidate who enjoyed the most vocal response in last night’s debate. Fair enough, the audible nature of the response was laughter.
While most everyone was watching the Yankees put up a goose egg, Jimmy McMillan was sporting a suit, tie, black gloves, incredible combination of mustache and beard, and preaching to the masses that the rent is “too damn high.”
A former Vietnam veteran and karate expert from Flatbush, Brooklyn, McMillan’s platform is to keep people in decent housing while still being able to afford breakfast, lunch and dinner for their children. He says the solution is simple–lower the rent.
I think every variety of artist in NYC from actors to musicians may jump right in behind this fella. It would make sense that if you want to erase a state deficit, price gouging on rents, especially for owned and paid off properties, which many of those pre-war crap-holes in NYC are, it would allow people to put their money back into local economies.
It’s nice to think about New York’s governmental dealings taking place in Albany, but as everyone who lives in New York or has ever lived in New York knows, the state goes as Buffalo NYC goes.
The rhetoric following the debate is calling the many gubernatorial candidates in NYC a mockery of the political process–that’s a wonderful thing.
Now. Please do enjoy Mr. McMillan, and be sure to catch his response to the question about gay marriage at the end of the short clip.
