Chilean Mine Rescue Underway!

Chile Mine RescueA rescue operation is underway in Chile, where 33 miners have spent 69 days trapped underground and are currently in the process of being lifted back to the surface. As of Wednesday morning, 14 of the 33 trapped workers had safely emerged from the collapsed mine in a compelling story of hope, camaraderie and survival that’s captivated the world and is almost certain to wind up as the can’t-miss television event of 2011.

Experts are predicting that reintegrating into everyday life will prove very difficult for the miners. These men, most of whom have toiled their entire lives in total obscurity, are now overnight celebrities of Susan Boyle-like stature. They’ve also spent more than two months completely isolated from their families, reliant solely upon one another to ward off despair while grappling with the dark existential and spiritual questions the rest of us silence with professional sports, TMZ.com and conveniently located retail complexes.
