James Burns has two things: a royal hatred of the band Weezer, and a campaign on The Point. It also appears he’s got a little too much time on his hands, but I have to say, the guy is sure dedicated to his cause.
His ultimate goal? No, it’s not world peace or the end of cancer. James is looking for Weezer to stop making mediocre albums and retire.
The Seattle native has begun a campaign to raise $10 million, saying he’ll turn over the cash to the band if they break up. Though he admits to never really being a fan of Weezer’s music (yes, even in the 90’s) James says the fundraiser is less about his own feelings and more about the anguish the group causes his friends, who are avid Weezer fans.
“Every year, Rivers Cuomo swears that he’s changed, and that their new album is the best thing that he’s done since ‘Pinkerton’ and what happens?” he writes on the pledge page. “Another pile of crap like ‘Beverly Hills’ or ‘I’m Your Daddy.’ This is an abusive relationship, and it needs to stop now.”
James vows to keep the pledge going until he raises the $10 million. However, upon hearing about the proposal on Pitchfork, Weezer drummer Patrick Wilson said, “if they can make it 20, we’ll do the ‘deluxe breakup!” via Twitter.
Sounds mildly intriguing. Though even the $10 million mark is a long way away for James’ cause – so far he’s only managed to raise about $200.
