Perhaps he’s prophetic. Perhaps he’s my age, and knew the Pats wouldn’t invest in another contract to take him through to the end of his career.
Perhaps it became obvious over the past two games when Brady could have gone to Moss more, but chose not to–I do think that Belichick re-schemed his game plan to see if they could win without Moss being heavily involved in statistical production.
I think Beli got the answer he wanted on Monday night vs. Miami. So, with that (and I think this is a terrible decision, and is going to allow defenses to finally clamp down on the New England offense…for this season), Randy Moss is gone from Kraft Nation.
Randy Moss is going back to the Minnesota Vikings, where he began his career, and he’ll be throwing a lifeline to Brett Favre, who doesn’t have a #1 without Sidney Rice on the field. Reading some of the post-trade rhetoric on the “sports sites,” it seems some are stating that the Moss trade is bad for both the Vikings and the Patriots–I don’t see it.
Percy Harvin can’t carry the WR load in Minnesota. He’s not mature enough in NFL years–with the migraines, the team never knows when they might be -1 on the offensive side of the ball. Moss is filling a monster void, and to be quite honest, here’s the QB/WR combo I have always wanted to see together. The gunslinger and the guy who loves to go up after everything.
I remember when Moss was in Minny for his first stint with Daunte Culpepper–I suggested their best option was to throw at least 3-4 jump balls to Randy Moss per game. It rarely happened, but make no mistake, this is a chance Brett Favre is willing to take.
I like this for the Vikings. I think the Patriots will be fine, especially owning 6 draft picks in the first 3 rounds of the 2011 draft, but they’ll struggle because of it this season. I don’t think they realize the full capacity of what Moss was freeing up underneath.
