It’s October. It’s almost time to crown a new king.
I’m in mourning. I’m pulling all my St. Louis Cardinals gear from the walls, and trying to put my disappointment to rest. Such a disappointing season. But ya know, I’m really excited for the mix of teams in the 2010 Major League Baseball playoffs.
You’ve got Tampa Bay, a team which can’t score more than 10,000 fans per regular season home game, leading the charge into the playoffs with the best record in the bigs…and you’ve got the perennial favorite New York Yankees sliding in right behind. On the flip-side you have the Philadelphia Phillies which may be playing the best baseball at present, and then you’ve got the Cincinnati Reds who have enjoyed playoff bliss since the mid-90s.
Add to the mix the always overlooked Minnesota Twins, the “could shock the world” Texas Rangers, and then some teams with favorable match-ups in the NLDS–the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves. I’m not sure which of those has the favorable match-up, as it’ll depend on which of their squads shows up to play. I’d love to see the Braves make a run–maybe see Bobby C. get tossed one last time!
The action gets started this Wednesday, and the TV coverage can be found on TBS as well as FOX, which will pick up the NLCS and the World Series.
The Texas Rangers will visit “The Trop” in St. Pete to face the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:37 p.m. EDT. They’ll be followed with Cinci at Philly at approx. 5:07 p.m. and the evening will be capped with the wildcard winning Yanks at Target Field vs. the Minnesota Twins at 8:37 p.m. All this sweet playoff action can be found on TBS.
Who do I like? It’s hard to argue with a Philly fan when they start yappin’ about their starting rotation. It’s brutal for any opponent. I definitely like the Phils out of the NL to enjoy home field advantage vs. the Tampa Bay Rays out of the AL. I think the World Series trophy is going to Florida this year, to the most under-appreciated baseball franchise in the world. Seriously, Tampa/St. Pete residents…beyond the 10,000 who show up regularly (and who are awesome!), the rest of you are some sorry city residents.
