Arnold Schwarzenegger Legalizes Pot Possession

By AAyles on October 1st, 2010

California just got a little bit cooler, folks.

Cali Governor and former actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has officially signed a bill to decriminalize the possession of up to one ounce of pot. The bill has been a long time coming and many individuals have been fighting for this bill for quite some time.

It’s not a huge surprise to anyone that Arnold of all people would sign a bill to legalize the possession of a narcotic. After all, the now 63-year-old spent most of his adult life on a steroid binge that could put Jersey Shore’s Ronnie to shame.

The bill that he signed yesterday reduces simple possession from a misdemeanor to an infraction.

Here’s what The Terminator himself had to say about his decision:

“I am signing this measure because possession of less than an ounce of marijuana is an infraction in everything but name. The only difference is that because it is a misdemeanor, a criminal defendant is entitled to a jury trial and a defense attorney. In this time of drastic budget cuts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, and the courts cannot afford to expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket.”

So true.

The law goes into effect January 1, 2011.

Nice way to kick off the new year, Arnie. We definitely appreciate your hard work.

It is important for people of the American Nation to understand that the failure of Prop 19 to pass does not mean that Californians are against legalization, what is represents is that Californians did not want another corporation controlling something so important to the medical well being of so many Californians. Legalization must include the release of the possession POW's in our Jails, and opportunity for everyone to be involved, not just 2 or three people, and we definitely do not want big tobacco companies taking over and corrupting medical marijuana. Thanks to Arnie we got what everyone thought Prop 19 would do without all the controls and restriction of Prop 19, and fortunately Nutmeg did not win either....Californians were strong in the polls and showed we could not be bought, and we want strait legalization not a corporate buyout.
