Remember in training camp when Dez Bryant told Roy Williams that he wouldn’t be carrying pads? Effectively telling Williams that he better step up his game, or he would find himself riding the aluminum while the rookie impressed? You knew some retribution was coming.
Sure, high paid rookies picking up tabs is nothing new, but when the dinner tab hits nearly $55,000, I gotta say, now I know what’s wrong with the Cowboys. Knowing that this was a “steak” dinner, it sounds to me like everyone had two or three steaks, several gallons of alcohol and a sampling of every dessert. Seriously, $55,000?
While I love some of their personnel, I can’t stand the Cowboys. I can’t stand Jerry Jones, and I pity Wade Phillips–I really think Phillips is probably one of the nicest guys in professional sports–just not a head coach. More than him, I pity Cowboys fans who think that Wade Phillips could actually lead a team to, and then win a Super Bowl. It ain’t gonna happen folks. You fans know I’m right. C’mon!? Can you imagine Wade Phillips opposite someone like Mike Tomlin in a big game?
Digressing, the opulence and excess in such a dinner setting, and the mindset of anyone to think that running up a tab of $55,000 is wise and socially responsible during these economic times is a simple example of the trickle down of Jerry Jones. Which is why “Coach Wade” is still coaching in Big D–he’s easier to puppet.
In regards to Dez: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s his money, he can do whatever he wants with it. Well…before we delve into that argument, we’ll see if any of these guys actually have a job next year. Beyond that, none of these fellas would make a whole lot without their poor to middle class fanatic religious following, so a little discretion would probably go a long, long way. Just a little discretion.
