Segway owner, Jimi Heselden, has died after riding his segway off a cliff.
The shocking incident has sparked controversy over whether the death was suspicious but law enforcement officials believe the incident was an accident. Further investigations are taking place to find out whether that specific Segway was faulty.
“Police were called at 11:40am yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above,” a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said Monday.
“A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious.”
The 62-year-old former miner was known for his generous contributions to charity. Just last week he was named one of the UKs most generous philanthropists after giving away 10million Euros to a foundation he setup in 2008.
Jimi had a reported net worth of over 166 million Euros and was ranked above Simon Cowell on the Sunday Times Rich List.
