Reggie Bush Injury: Broken Fibula

By James Sheldon on September 21st, 2010

I’m a Saints fan.

Not just a fan of the team because it became trendy post-Katrina–my roots extend to the deep south of Louisiana, and even growing up a couple states north, I only knew of three teams–the Saints were one of them. I stress over their wins and losses. I don’t digest well while eating and drinking during their games.

As expected, I felt sick last night when Reggie Bush didn’t quickly pop-up off the field after muffing and recovering a punt in the 4th quarter. He always pops up quick.

I thought to myself, “What a week for this guy…” and then quickly hoped that if it were a severe injury, it would be a fracture as opposed to ligament damage in a knee or ankle. If you’re a jock, you understand why I’m saying this.

The initial diagnosis is a broken fibula. That’s the outer bone of the leg which offers lateral support–the calf bone, if you will. Looking at the replay it seemed rather obvious that when the dude from the 49ers landed on his leg, there wouldn’t be a whole lot of give while pinned against the ground.

He’ll have it X-rayed again with team doctors in New Orleans, and at that point they’ll offer a prognosis. He’ll more than likely be out for 6 weeks, which is pretty standard for breaks and fractures. At this point they haven’t spoken of the extent of the damage or the nature of the break.

You just saw disaster about to strike with that punt, didn’t you? With that wind blowing like it was…cripes. Bush owners in the fantasy realm may want to have a look at the waiver wire, or push for a potential trade.

NEW ORLEANS - Reggie Bush lost broken leg which is about six weeks, but not the rest of the season, a person familiar with the injury, he said. http://apusa.us/fibula-2250/
