New York Jets receiver Braylon Edwards is the latest pro athlete to make headlines after being arrested for DUI.
The 27-year-old was pulled over at 5:15 am but the reason cops pulled him over had nothing to do with the fact that he was hammered. Cops flagged Edwards’ vehicle after they realized the windows were excessively tinted but quickly realized upon speaking with him that he was intoxicated.
It appears that Braylon was partying a little too hard at a charity even thrown by his teammate Jerrico Cotchery and decided instead of calling a cab, it would just be easier to drive home.
Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum has the following to say about the incident:
“We are very disappointed in Braylon’s actions this morning … We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures.”
His statement was very diplomatic but he elaborated with some very interesting information – information that proves just how dumb and inconsiderate Braylon Edwards really is:
“The Player Protect program is in place for our organization to prevent this situation. Braylon is aware of this program and showed poor judgment.”
The Player Protect program is a car service for Jets players that will pick up the players when they’ve had too much to drink.
Braylon didn’t make the call but instead drove with a blood alcohol level over twice the legal limit (.16) and risked not only his life but, more importantly, others as well.
Like most celebrities, his punishment will likely be a slap on the wrist.
