Michael Grimm Wins America’s Got Talent

By Mark Lorenz on September 16th, 2010

If you’ve been watching America’s Got Talent, you are by far a better television viewer than I am. I couldn’t name anybody who won in years previous.

The only reason I could for American Idol is because it was a local boy who won a year ago, Lee DeWyze, or something. And then he promptly fell off the face of the earth, because American Idol rewards the most middling acts, the ones completely devoid of style – with adulation and respect. And a recording contract. Thankfully, apparently America’s Got Talent has a tiny bit more taste.

If you were watching this year, you would’ve seen acts that were as bizarre as they could possibly be – Prince Poppycock, a flamboyant opera singer, Jackie Evancho, a less-flamboyant but equally as creepy 10 year-old opera singer with a voice that belongs to a person who is much older, and a grizzled Vegas bar singer named Michael Grimm – who had an amazing voice but was too old to make the cut of American Idol.

Doesn’t that suck? If there was an age limit on music, we wouldn’t have countless musicians who started being prominent during their 30’s and 40’s – Leonard Cohen, Sam Cooke, and countless others.

Thankfully, Michael Grimm won, which’ll let him move his grandparents out of the barrio they were apparently living in down south. Enjoy his sultry, dulcet tones.

I voted for Michael Grimm and am thrilled that he won. He has an amazing voice and such a humble caring demeanor. I don't find Jackie creepy at all. Don't know why you would say that. She has a beautiful voice, though granted it is much more mature than most would have at her age. But she seems like a sweet, well-spoken, unspoiled child who actually was not made up to look like she was 18 on stage. Her parents seem to be raising her beautifully and making sure she stays a little girl in spite of what has been and most likely will continue to be a very busy schedule. Shame on you for calling her creepy. I think its pretty creepy for you to say that. Can't wait to by Michael's new CD!!!!
