Provided you sign yourself up for the year-long thrill-ride that is American Idol. Which means that you will not have a career later.
American Idol is a ratings monstrosity, only recently being bested and slain by ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. But with Simon Cowell’s departure, will they be in a spot to see whether or not they can continue successfully.
So far, their one task has been to get judges that are adequate and worthy of being on primetime – and they’ve fallen flat on their faces. Repeatedly. Despite the trade papers reporting that Jennifer Lopez was turned down for her diva demands, her manager Benny Medina managed to fanagle her a deal that would be worth 12 million dollars a year, provided that she stays on the show. That’s right, the woman whose career was derailed by terrible movies, South Park, and establishing a vanity production company, Nuyorican, is going to be invading your television show to critique singing. Singing. The very thing that nobody could ever say Jennifer Lopez was good at – which is ridiculous, because it’s not like she’s writing her own lyrics.
12 million dollars. Ellen Degeneres reportedly got in the mid 30’s for her yearlong appearance, but if anyone can jump-start American Idol again, it’s not going to be Jennifer Lopez.
It should be Matt Stone and Trey Parker doing a Jennifer Lopez impression to critique people.
