The Social Network Still Looks Amazing

If there’s one thing we should never do, it’s question the collective judgment of Aaron Sorkin and David Fincher. Because they’re two of the most brilliant people working in Hollywood.

And they’ve collaborated on a movie that many people have been whispering about pejoratively – The Social Network. A lot has been said about the kind of culture that could produce a movie about a social networking site, but the elements for a epoch-defining moment in cinema are all there – young hubris, technology versus social interaction, have vs. have-nots, all in a culture that’s struggling to find itself in the fog of postmodernism. It’s all there.

The detractors will soon have to eat their hat, appendages, and whatever else is lying nearby, because The Social Network has been pulling in some of the best reviews of the year. Rolling Stone has given it 4 stars, the New York Film Festival has given it rave reviews, and judging by their marketing campaign incorporating the latest best from Kanye West, they know exactly what kind of story they’re telling.

Which is more than you can say for most contemporary slices of cinema.

And in case you’re wondering, Facebook doesn’t approve of the movie.
