Lady Gaga is known to everyone the world over as the biggest current pop star of the moment, the sign of the times, the revolutionary singer who managed to remake an Ace of Base song and send it to an S & M nunnery.
What is she less known for? The mountains of cocaine she has done in her private life, her blatant self-hatred and invention of a back-story, and now, the allegations that her crazy dieting has landed her in the hospital multiple times in the last year, under the guise of being affected by lupus. This is according to the Pulitzer-Prize award-nominated author Maureen Callahan. Because pressure on the record executives to lose weight was crushing her self-esteem.
I’ve never seen a Lady Gaga concert, but it has to be a trip watching somebody operate a buzzsaw on a chainmail dress whilst screaming ‘Believe In Yourself’! It’s like everything in pop has been condensed into a pop culture dreamscape where insecurity is viewed as boldness, and derivative pop is elevated to the point where the people who propagate it are deified.
So Lady Gaga is the biggest star in the world, but passes out onstage because she wants to lose weight really badly. Britney Spears is arguably the second-biggest pop star in the world, but has no idea where her kids are and doesn’t control her own finances.
Still want to be famous?
