…and a bunch of other crap.
Nyjer Morgan. I love watching this kid baseball. I hate listening to him speak–about himself, about his team, about what he thinks good baseball is. Sadly, I don’t think this suspension is going to do a whole lot of good, as Morgan is simply one of those guys who lives with a chip on his shoulder. It’s probably what makes him as good as he is, but it also seems to result in some pretty poor decisions on the field. He was suspended 7 games earlier this season for throwing a ball at a fan. He appealed that suspension, and is appealing this one as well.
If I may speak for all baseball fans and MLB: Enjoy your 15 day vacation, Nyjer.
After a rash of recent episodes involving Morgan, which started over a week ago when the Cardinals were in Washington, and Morgan unnecessarily ran into Cardinals back-up catcher, Bryan Anderson. He followed that play, which is own manager referred to as “unprofessional,” with more questionable character play in Florida when he unnecessarily ran over the Marlins catcher, Brett Hayes during a play at the plate.
Any baseball player/fan watching, would easily agree that a simple slide would have scored him. Instead, he dropped the boom, and basically blindsided Hayes, separating the catcher’s shoulder. At that point, you knew what was coming.
The following night Chris Volstad took the mound. Once the Marlins took a huge lead, everyone, including Morgan, knew he was going to get the old bean ball. He took it. He trotted to first, proceeded to steal second, then third and scored on a sac fly. Next at-bat, Volstad didn’t take kindly to the swiping of bases–it’s generally not something you do when you’re down as big as the Nationals were, but…it was Nyjer Morgan.
Volstad opted to avoid the contact, and this time threw behind Morgan. If you didn’t see it, enjoy the video below. Several players involved were suspended, including Gaby Sanchez, the first baseman for the Marlins. You can see him come flying with clothesline that dropped Morgan WWE style.
And people say baseball is boring.
