Definitely one of the weirdest stories of the year.
Straight out of the Gremlins screenplay. It happened in Bakersfield, CA, and apparently the strange deed took place about a week ago.
Dr. Jacquelyn Kotarac, a well-respected doctor within the Bakersfield community, had an on-again, off-again relationship with a local fella. I know what you’re thinking, “I’ve been there…” So, then, you know how crazy those relationships can be–clearly based more on infatuation and obsession than honesty and understanding.
Kotarac was looking to have a chat with what seemed like the resident of the home, 58 year old, William Moodie. As she tried to enter the home, he reportedly crept out the back door to avoid contact or any potential confrontation. With no way in, Kotarac took to the roof via ladder, where she decided she would slither down the chimney, land in the fireplace and have access to the interior.
The problem occurred when she got stuck, and wasn’t discovered for several days, by a house sitter and her son. The stench from the chimney was overwhelming, and there was liquid that began to accumulate in the fireplace floor. She was just a couple of feet above the fireplace, and no doubt, those house-sitters had to believe they had been thrust into some horror flic.
The fire department dismantled the chimney and removed the badly decomposed corpse which was later identified as Kotarac. All this is weird. Slightly suspicious, yeah? It only magnifies.
Fellow employees from her doctor’s office reported her as missing when she didn’t show up for work. Her car and belongings were found near to the house, yet as is obvious, any investigation resulted in nothing. I suppose the last place you’d think to look for someone would be the chimney.
When asked about the situation, Moodie, the home’s resident and the presumed object of Kotarac’s affection, stated: ”She made an unbelievable error in judgment and nobody understands why, and unfortunately she’s passed away. She had her issues–she had her demons–but I never lost my respect for her.”
Authorities don’t suspect foul play, though they agree the whole scenario is incredibly suspicious. An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
