Sidney Rice. He exploded as a league leader last season. This season, who knows. As a matter of fact, at the point of pecking these letters into a Manolith post, Rice is probably in the midst of a hip surgery that is going to keep him out of action for at least several weeks. So, if you’re thinking about snagging him for your fantasy squad, think again.
The drama in Minnesota is real. Forget that Favre, Brad Childress nonsense from last week, this team is hurting at the wide receiver spot–literally. Sidney Rice is struggling with his bum hip, and Percy Harvin, God bless the kid, his migraine headaches that have obviously reached a debilitating state. He was rushed to the hospital last week after collapsing on the field. So, what do you do when you’re out a couple Pro-Bowl potential athletes? You start diggin’ around in the bargain bin.
Remember Javon Walker? He’s another one of those guys. You know…those guys. One of those guys who are blessed with more talent than the likes of Jerry Rice, but who are devoid of the work ethic and winning attitude. He was drafted by Green Bay about 8 years ago, and he actually had one monster year with the Packers with none other than Brett Favre at QB. One thing that most football fans are aware of is the fact that Favre and Walker butted heads on more than a few occasions.
Javon Walker has been a glass figurine over the past several seasons. After injuries and attitude shortened his career in Green Bay, Walker went to Denver, where he couldn’t avoid controversy and was eventually released when the Broncos couldn’t score a trade. Where else to go at that point but Oakland. Need I say more? Walker got busted up early in the 2008 season, and hasn’t really done anything since then.
I’m curious to see what happens here. Obviously Walker is a band-aid, but it’ll be interesting to see if he can produce, or if some of the young guys trying to make the squad are better options for the development of team chemistry.
I hoping to see Walker play as he’s capable. I’d like to see him set the past aside and be reborn as a football player in Minnesota. His athleticism is and has always been phenomenal, and what can I say, I’m a sucker for a comeback.
