Michael Jackson is dead, but his memory is still held dear to anyone who’s ever listened to music, been terrified of clowns, and rejected the offers to stay at a palatial theme-park with someone accused of child molestation.
And if you’ve been around long enough, you might also remember a videogame starring Michael Jackson where you had to rescue little children by doing dance moves and defeat a villain named Mr. Big. Sounds like a creepy enough spin-off of Sex and the City, doesn’t it? But people loved it and Jackson enough to buy copies, and now that he’s dead, it’s time to flog and milk his estate for all that it’s worth.
There will be a new Michael Jackson game coming out, where players can imitate his dance moves, sing his songs, and generally have nostalgia for a period of the 80’s that has long since gone. Not included in the game? Chasing children around the legs of your pet giraffe, disparaging evil Jews for ruining your career, and releasing albums that nobody really cares about in the new millennium. Except for the worldwide fanbase you’ve built up through the media-domination of MTV in the 80’s.
Really, it’s win-win. Katherine Jackson gets a bunch of money, and we remember the good times, where a 30-something man with the capacity of a teenager didn’t sleep with a bunch of kids – but instead made amazing music.
