You know it’s a bad week for the auto industry when two high profile companies are recalling over 200,000 vehicles each.
Today, Mazda is recalling 215,000 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 sedans due to loss of power steering. According to the release, the products are being recalled because it’s possible the vehicles may experience a sudden loss of power steering while the car in is in drive. This type of defect increases the risk of crash, injury and, in extreme cases, even death.
The Mazda recall affects 2007-2009 Mazda 3 and Mazda 5 sedans built between the months of April 2007 to November 2008.
The automaker says it plans to contact affected owners of the recall in September and will send notices to all owners by February 2011.
Meanwhile, GM has also announced a recall of 250,000 GM Traverse, Enclave, Acadia and Outlook products due to seatbelt problems.
According to the GM website:
“There are 243,403 vehicles involved in the recall, the majority in the United States with several thousand exported vehicles in Canada, Mexico, China and Saudi Arabia and small populations in other countries
GM discovered damaged second-row safety belt buckles among warranty returns. There are no known cases where second-row safety belts have failed to perform properly in a crash.”
