Elyse Porterfield: HOPA Dry Erase Girl A Hoax, Identity Revealed

By Heather B on August 11th, 2010

Elyse PorterfieldYesterday, we feel in love with “Jenny” a young woman who quit her job through a series of white board messages, and amusing facial expressions.  But alas, this morning we found out that it was just too good to be true.

“Jenny” is actually, Elyse Porterfield, an aspiring actress who recently moved to California.  The prank was created for an image board website, called The Chive, part of a network of viral sites run by brothers, Leo and John Resig, Tech Crunch writes.  The du have a history of creating internet hoaxes, including the $10,000 Donald Trump tip and the virgin who texted her Dad that she lost her virginity.

Porterfield responded to an audition ad in Actors Access, and won the role.

Despite the droves of media attention that they received, Resig insists that they didn’t mislead the public solely for traffic and media attention.

“We didn’t do this for the media.  I did it almost to prove to myself that I had it in me, to make something viral at 4:30 in the morning before the world wakes up,” he said.

Take a look at Jenny Elyse’s new message to her fans.  Yes, it’s also via whiteboard.

Meh – We’ve still got the Jet Blue guy!
