Steve Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant who cursed at passengers, activated the plane’s emergency chute and coasted down the slide (beer in hand) is the center of the media today and as time passes, more and more details are released.
What we didn’t know when we first reported on this story earlier today is that Slater is reportedly a gay, HIV Positive, recovering alcoholic who has been looking after his mother who is reportedly dying from cancer. He now also has the inconvenience of $2500 bail.
It was just announced that Steve Slater is pleading not guilty to the charges, despite the airline insisting someone could have been hurt or killed if the chute opened unexpectedly and crushed someone.
Seems like the ignorant woman passenger who refused to sit down when told is just the straw that broke the camel’s back in this incident. With everything going on in his personal life (if the reports are true) we’re surprised this didn’t happen earlier.
Was Steve Slater wrong to activate the chute and coast down the slide while chugging a beer? Probably. But was the bitch who told him to “f-ck off” and practically forced the bin to crash on his head also wrong? Undoubtedly.
Why isn’t she being arrested? If the plane was still moving when she opened the bin, wasn’t she endangering other passengers?
If someone treated a police officer the way this woman treated the flight attendants, you can bet your ass they would have been punished.
If you ask us, she was the one out of control, not Steve. No wonder she hasn’t shown her face yet. We’d be hiding like a coward too if we were in her position!
Oh yeah. Getting up out of your seat isn’t merely an inconvenience, it’s a violation of FAA regulation. He could have gotten the last laugh and not gone to jail if he would have just reported her to police upon arrival – but seriously, I just feel for the guy…
I can see a NY judge offering a little mercy, giving the guy some community service, etc. but this lady has to be sweating it out right now. As soon as they’ve chatted with the COOLEST flight attendant ever, and have a look at the passenger manifest, she’ll be called in for a little questioning.

Frontal lobe injury from being hit in the head. the frontal lobe controls mood and behavior. He has suffer a job related head injury. The passenger who broke the law and opened that ben is responsible for braksing the law and injurying the attendent. He needs medical treatment. I hope someone gives it to him.
And after a long flight, personal issues… hopefully he gets off without charges, that is if he has a good lawyer

I was waiting for drugs or alcohol to show up in this story. But the mom-with-cancer angle does make me feel for the guy.

“Probably” vs. “Undoubtedly” wrong? I think you have it backwards. Given the choice, I would much rather endure the impatient jerk on every flight who jumps up early to grab their bags, than ever fly with a surly, unstable flight attendant who uses emergency equipment for a joy ride escape.
this flight faggg definitely has anger issues. all those people said he was nasty to begin with. so he thinks he can just get off his job? wow wouldn’t everyone like to do that at work but we handle it like grownups. i think this dude needs some anger management rehab and a stiff penalty, not jail.
