Wyclef JeanThough reports of a full-blown campaign are a little premature, Haitian –born musician, Wyclef Jean, is reportedly considering a career in politics in his homeland.

In a phone conversation with CNN this morning, Jean said, “I can’t sing forever.”

Wyclef has been an active philanthropist for Haiti long before an earthquake rocked Port-au-Prince in January, capturing the attention of celebrities and political leaders around the world.  His foundation, Yéle Haiti released the following statement regarding the former Fugees member’s potential career change:

“Wycelf’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward.  At this time, Wyclef Jean has not announced his intent to run for Haitian president.  If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.  Please let us know if we can help with anything else.”

According to CNN, Jean has filled out the necessary paperwork should he choose to move forward with his candidacy.  At this point, Jean says he has been “drafted” but hasn’t decided for sure yet whether or not he will actively pursue the role of Haitian President.
