There is no question that the highlight of the “Dexter” panel at the San Diego Comic-Con Thursday was the trailer for the much anticipated fifth season of the show. Without giving too much away (I know quite a few people who have still yet to finish watching season four) the ending is the most explosive yet in the show’s history.
If you haven’t finished watching season 4 – SPOILER ALERT – both the trailer, and following copy directly discuss the final events of last season. If you don’t want to know what happens, don’t watch or read on.
While an HD version of the trailer is not year available online because of an unfinished music copyright, we were able to get our hands on a bootlegged version of the official trailer, posted hours after the end of the panel. Watch:
Amazing!
Ok, admittedly it was a little hard to see, so I’ll give you a quick run through…
Picking up right where season 4 left off, Dexter finds his son Harrison lying in a pool of blood, triggering memories from his own childhood when Harry rescued him from a similar situation.
Rita’s daughter Astor screams at Dexter after learning that her mother has been killed. “You should have been there to protect her,” she says. That was your job! I wish you were dead!”
Quinn suspects Dexter killed Rita, a suspicion made worse by the fact that his neighbor, Elliot, testifies that Dexter often leaves the house at all hours.
Deb, who takes over caring for the new baby has a suspicion of her own – there’s a glimpse of Rita in a coffin and a sketch of a suspect named, Kyle Butler. You’ll remember that Kyle Butler was the alias used by Dexter when he eluded the Trinity killer.
Showrunner Chip Johannessen denied that the story would focus heavily on the baby, saying, “This is an adult origin story in a way. This is not something that happened to him when he was three years old. We don’t continue the facts of season four for very long, but this set of events he brought on himself very much permeate season five,” reports Ace Showbiz.
Michael C. Hall also confirmed that Julia Stiles’ character does get “intimate” with Dexter during the season, but quickly added that Rita’s place in Dexter’s heart remains, and that she isn’t replaced.
It was also revealed at the panel that there would be no big villain this season, rather the show will feature a number of baddies to keep Dexter on his toes.
Season 5 of Dexter begins September 26, 2010.
