Good news for everyone who has been screaming out for an intelligent movie that doesn’t have a number in the title or a superhero that dresses in suits – Inception has won the weekend box-office.
Christopher Nolan is one of the most intelligent filmmakers working today, a man who’s able to tier intricate stories with the grace of a weaver. In addition, he’s one of the only people who can put psychological undertones in a story without having them dominate the work in a cheese-party (are you taking notes, M. Night?), and audiences are pretty much fed up with having to see dogs in sunglasses. Or they might not be, Cats And Dogs 3D is still yet to be released. Later this month. Joy. The film was bolstered by strong reviews and an incredible supporting cast.
But Inception cleaned up the box-office, taking in 60.4 million dollars for Warner Bros., as the studio put their stamp on the third week in July for the third straight year. Prior openings that have been winners have been Harry Potter and The Dark Knight. The biggest loser at the box office? The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, which despite having a budget of more than 100 million dollars barely managed to rake in 17.4 million for the weekend. Which wasn’t even enough to get them into second place.
