If you want any sort of direction as to where our culture is heading, you should go on YouTube. Between the legions of cats, basketball videos, and people giving out beauty tips, there’s the undercurrent of society’s atrophy.
Which means there’s a new leader in all-time video views on YouTube. And that leader is teen pop sensation Justin Bieber. More than 246 million people have watched the music video to ‘Baby’, one of his only hit songs, usurping the record that was previously held by Lady Gaga. That sound about right to you? It sounds about right to me. That’s where we are as a country, is we like watching mindless pop videos and people biting each other. God help us. I am ready for 2012 to come. The announcement came this morning, and Justin Bieber thanked all of us ‘Beliebers’, and hoped for many more years to come of mindless pop music.
Blech. Just, blech. Although if you pick your favorite music artists based off of their YouTube hits, you should probably kill yourself.
