Cliff Lee – Is He Heading to the Yanks?

By James Sheldon on July 9th, 2010

Of course he would like a trade with the Yankees. Where else in the MLB can you pretty much rest assured that you’re guaranteed a ring if you stick around for 5 or so years?

Rumors are flying that Lee is interested in a trade to the team that everyone loves to hate, and subsequently signing a longer deal with the pinstripers once the opportunity presented itself. In return, the Mariners want some serious prospective talent in exchange for the former Cy Young winner, who is still at the top of his game.

This just goes to prove that the Mariners franchise and front office is as stupid as I thought they were. Prospects? From the Yankees? Mariners, Mariners, OH, Seattle Mariners. The Yankees groom very little young talent. They buy their championships through free agencies and scoring ridiculous trade deals with idiot franchises like yourself. If you want serious prospects from a trade, you should look elsewhere.

Both Chicago teams have loads of talent in the farm system. The St. Louis Cardinals are so loaded with talented outfielders, the organization apparently doesn’t know what to do with them. As a Redbirds fan, I would be shocked to see the same three guys start two consecutive games, but I digress…back to Cliff Lee.

It’s not only the Yankees that are interested in Lee. About half of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball have made some inquiry about the All-Star who has been relegated to baseball obscurity in Seattle. He wants to compete for a series championship, and let’s be honest, it isn’t going to happen in the Pacific Northwest.

I can say this with certainty: When the 7/31 deadline rolls around, Cliff Lee is wearing a different uniform. If it gets any more interesting, I’ll toss in an update, but don’t expect anything to happen until after the break.

Geez. I can’t wait until they establish a salary cap in baseball.
